That was certainly the case for Maria, an 18-year-old contortionist from Bavaria, Germany, whose emotional audition on America’s Got Talent Season 21 left both the judges and audience in awe.
Before showcasing her astonishing flexibility, Maria shared a deeply personal story that made her performance even more meaningful.
A Childhood Marked by a Life-Changing Illness
Maria grew up in a tiny mountain village in Bavaria with her family and their many animals.
“My village is very small,” she told the judges with a smile. “Only about 40 people live there, but there are around 200 animals.”
Although she loves her quiet hometown, Maria has always dreamed of performing on the world’s biggest stages. Appearing on America’s Got Talent was a dream she had held onto for years.
“This is my first time in America,” she said. “It’s overwhelming and amazing. I’ve hoped to be on AGT for my entire life.”
She also revealed another dream beyond performing—to one day become a therapist and help others.

Maria then opened up about one of the most difficult chapters of her life.
“When I was 10 years old, I became very sick,” she explained. “I was in a wheelchair for two years because I was paralyzed.”
During those challenging years, she found hope by watching America’s Got Talent.
“I saw so many people on this stage who inspired me,” she said. “I wanted to be like them. Today, I want to show you my talent.”
